* The Missouri Valley. The Valley is 67-25 against nonconference competition, and Wichita State is undefeated. This league is more than just Southern Illinois and Creighton.

* Georgia Tech's backcourt. Jarrett Jack showed why he's one of the nation's most versatile, skilled point guards, scoring 26 points in a loss at Kansas. BJ. Elder tweaked his hamstring and played little. Elder can score, but will he ever be on the court when it matters most?

* N.C. State. The Wolfpack started strong against inferior competition. Then came a loss to Washington, which was understandable. But the loss to St. John's was inexcusable--how does a team this talented shoot 20 percent?
