The N.L. Central race still is wide open, so there will be plenty on the line when the Cubs visit the Astros. The teams have split six games this season. In their previous series, Sammy Sosa was 2-for-15 with eight strikeouts in his first games back after a toe injury. Next up for the Astros is a home series against the Braves; Atlanta swept Houston earlier this year....

The rivalry continues when the Yankees and Red Sox meet for three games at Fenway Park this weekend. Pedro Martinez is scheduled to start Game 1 against Mike Mussina. ... The underachieving Twins have a chance to make up some ground. From Friday through August 14, a span of 20 games, Minnesota plays only the Indians, Orioles and Tigers.... The Giants visit the Cubs Tuesday through Thursday. Dusty Baker is 2-1 against his former team this year.... After three games in Arizona against the D-backs, the new-look Dodgers are on the road against the Phillies.
