DOGHOUSE

Sporting News, The, July 30, 2001

The Mariners' stunning season has apparently driven their division rivals mad. How mad? Mad enough that Oakland co-owner Steve Schott had considered trading last season's American League MVP Jason Giambi. He has since come to his senses. Schott had talked about doing such a thing after Giambi's agent, Arn Tellem, declared that the cost of signing his client had just gone up. Tellem's no angel. He's an agent. That's his job: to pop off on Giambi's behalf. That doesn't mean the boss has to do it, too. Schott has a stake in the community and something to lose--mainly, his meal ticket.
