Coming attractions

Sporting News, The, August 4, 2003 by Chris Bahr

The Giants have shown no interest in relinquishing their N.L. West lead, but the Diamondbacks figure prominently in the wild card race. The Cubs are in a similar situation in the Central, and the two teams will meet this weekend at Wrigley Field. Curt Schilling should get a start, but Randy Johnson, Brandon Webb and Kerry Wood won't....

Other N.L. wild-card contenders also face big series. The Dodgers travel to Atlanta, and the Marlins have a home series against the Astros before heading to St. Louis. The last time the Marlins and Cardinals met, the rubber game of the series went 20 innings.... In the A.L., the White Sox are in a pivotal stretch. After a weekend series in Seattle, Chicago heads home for three with the Royals.... The Yankees own the A's in the postseason, but Oakland has handled them in four of the six games this season, holding the Bombers to a .168 average.
