* The rivalry has turned rougher in recent seasons; there -have been beanballs, benches-clearing incidents and shouting matches between toothpick-chewing Cubs manager Dusty Baker and sunglasses-at-night Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. "But it isn't really a rivalry until an elderly bench coach gets slammed facefirst into the ground," Cubs shortstop Nomar Garciaparra says. Besides potential mayhem, the focus will be on MVP hopefuls Albert Pujols and Derrek Lee.

* Before Manny Ramirez, there was Carl Everett. Manny's trade demands and Green Monster bathroom breaks pale in comparison with the antics of Everett, a former Red Sox outfielder. Everett butted heads with his teammates, his manager and even umpires (literally).
* One or both of these teams has reached the postseason every year since 2000, and this series will have major wild-card implications. By the way, Oakland's Rich Harden is looking a lot like last season's Johan Santana.
* The Braves always seem to know exactly when to let a pitcher go, and one of their recent offseason losses is the Diamondbacks' offseason, well, loss. Russ Ortiz is a $33 million lesson Arizona learned the hard way.

* They might not look pretty--their physiques or their WHIPs--but Texas closer Francisco Cordero and Cleveland closer Bob Wickman get the job done.
