The old ballgame

Sporting News, The, Sept 2, 2005

Twenty years ago, former minor league baseball player Dale Shellman took a trip to Florida for spring training, armed with a $29.95 tape recorder from Wal-Mart. He left with tapes full of interviews with stars such as Ted Williams, Pete Rose and Carlton Fisk.

Shellman will donate his interviews--85 in all--and tape recorder to the Baseball Hall of Fame Official Archives on August 31. Eleven of the interviews have been compiled on a CD called Shellman Talks Baseball ($14.95 on shellmantalksbaseball.com), and a second edition will be available later this year.
