Play action

Whether it's falling behind because of a contract holdout or gaining the benefit of a veteran playing poorly ahead of him, a rookie's value can change fast during camp.
HOT
Reggie Brown, WR, Eagles. Two things have sped up his learning--Todd Pinkston's season-ending injury and Terrell Owens' posturing, If Owens remains the team's No. 1, Brown will benefit from favorable coverage wherever he lines up.
Matt Jones, WR, Jaguars. So much for adjusting to a new position. With Reggie Williams struggling, Jones, a former quarterback with size (6-6, 242) and athleticism, is emerging as a red zone force.

Eric Shelton, RB, Panthers. Move over, Stephen Davis--Shelton (6-1,246) has healthier legs, and he has shown off the bruising style that Carolina needs near the goal line.
Carnell Williams, RB, Buccaneers. Jon Gruden has loved Williams since coaching him at the Senior Bowl. He'll continue to love Williams, whose explosiveness will reinvigorate the team's running game.
NOT
Cedric Benson, RB, Bears. The draft's last first-round holdout, Benson has allowed Thomas Jones to reestablish himself with the first team. Jones likely will be the Week 1 starter.
Maurice Clarett, RB, Broncos. Camp has been a struggle for the former Ohio State star. Even though Denver backs always seem intriguing, he's buried on the depth chart.
Braylon Edwards, WR, Browns. While Edwards held out early, veterans Antonio Bryant and Dennis Northcutt performed well. The Browns' No. 1 pick will need to work hard to gain a No. 1 job.
Roddy White, WR, Falcons. In a lackluster receiving corps, he had a chance to get frequent touches, but a high ankle sprain has put a major crimp in what he'll be able to contribute.
