Schmidt's up-and-down season continued moving upward last week with wins over the National League's best team, the Cardinals, and one of its hottest, the Mets. He allowed one earned run and seven hits in 14 innings, striking out seven. The only blemish was seven walks. Schmidt's 2-0 week capped a 4-0 August and moved him to 5-1 since the All-Star break.
