Out on a limb

Sporting News, The, Sept 11, 2000

* Washington looked good in dismantling Idaho, 44-20, but the Huskies are living on borrowed time. Washington relies too much on QB Marques Tuiasosopo. The lack of playmakers at receiver will cause the team to underachieve.

* Who's the best quarterback in the ACC? Not so fast, Chris Weinke. In the end, Clemson's Woodrow Dantzler will emerge. Yes, it was against I-AA Citadel, but Dantzler was surgeonlike in hitting 16-of-17 passes for 192 yards and three touch-downs in a 38-0 win. His best is yet to come in Tommy Bowden's spread attack.

* West Virginia coach Don Nehlen is off the hot seat after guiding the team to an impressive 34-14 win over Boston College. His defense was supposed to be weak but it allowed 79 yards rushing and 127 passing to a veteran Eagles' offense.
