Soaring under the radar

UConn's Dan Orlovsky isn't the only big-time quarterback who plays at a non-marquee school.

Timmy Chang, Hawaii. He is poised to set a record for career passing yards in Division I-A.

Charlie Frye, Akron. He's a smart, rugged passer who knows how to dissect a defense.

Bruce Gradkowski, Toledo. He ranked second in the nation with a 71.2 completion percentage last year.

James Kilian, Tulsa. A smart, efficient passer, Kilian doubles as a nifty runner.

Kolb, Houston. Kolb is a quick-firing triggerman in a Texas Tech-style attack.

Stefan LeFors, Louisville. At 6-0, 200 pounds, he lacks size, but he is a good athlete who can improvise.

Alex Smith, Utah. He isn't a great athlete, but he can do a bit of everything in a spread attack.--T.D.
