Bob Hille's starting 5

Sporting News, The,  Sept 16, 2005

1 NFL Week 1. The Stones are part of "Kickoff 2005," which is great. Right off the bat we get one question answered: Which is uglier, Keith Richards or the Raiders' defense?

2 Yao. His contract extension is worth 1575 million; it would've been only 570 million, but his agent played hardball and got the Rockets to throw in a year's worth of gas.

3 Red Sox-Yankees. Does it get any better in September? Rivalry series. Playoff implications. Plus, there's a promotional giveaway on Friday. It's David Wells Muzzle Night.

4 The U.S. Open. Is it me or has tennis lost its appeal? I've got to guess TV ratings are down--way down. I'm thinking McEnroe-on-CNBC down.
