Andre Johnson WR, Texans

Sporting News, The,  Sept 20, 2004

STRENGTHS: Has the initial quickness, speed and strength to become a standout player. Explodes off the line and excels at beating press coverage with excellent upper-body strength and quick feet. Breaks with great suddenness, shows excellent burst out of cuts and is a smooth route runner. Makes tough catches in traffic and isn't afraid to go over the middle. Wins most jump balls with tremendous leaping ability and long arms. Reaches top speed quickly after the catch. Shows good vision and power as a runner. Takes good angles to blocks and drives defenders back.

WEAKNESSES: Loses focus as a route runner. Relies too much on natural gifts at times and rounds off cuts. Doesn't always find the soft spot against zone coverage and needs to work on his recognition skills. Lacks great elusiveness after the catch and in the open field.

BOTTOM LINE: Johnson is part of an exciting young offense that features quarterback David Carr and running back Domanick Davis. The talent of each will help the others. If Johnson encounters less double coverage, he could emerge as one of the league's top receivers.--War Room scouts
