That scheme took the team's playmakers--wideouts Braylon Edwards, Jason Avant and Steve Breaston---out of the game and made the offense predictable.

Although Eric Bassey and Antonio Perkins are Oklahoma's starting cornerbacks, CB Chijioke Onyenegecha is on the verge of being a major factor. With the best combination of athleticism, size and speed in the Sooners' secondary, Onyenegecha was expected to be a starter before inconsistent play and a hamstring problem set him back in the offseason. He also left last week's game against Houston with an unspecified injury but is expected to play this weekend against Oregon. Coach Bob Stoops has been raving about Onyenegecha in recent practices, and Onyenegecha could end up starting if Perkins' banged-up ankle, which he re-injured in the opener against Bowling Green, turns into an ongoing problem.... Sophomore Drew Stanton's surgically repaired knee still is healing, keeping Michigan State's quarterback situation up in the air. Stanton, who served as backup to the departed Jeff Smoker last season, is coach John L. Smith's first choice for the starting job.
