1 Notre Dame's victory over Michigan last Saturday reminded me of a quote by my old TV partner Beano Cook, when discussing the Wolverines' history: "Michigan has the best helmets, but like Germany, it will find a way to lose."

2 Texas helped to prop up the entire Big 12 last week at the Horseshoe. After opening-week losses by conference kahunas Oklahoma and Texas A&M, Mack Brown's team had its league's image on the line against Ohio State, and the Longhorns answered the bell.
