Bob Hille's starting 5

Sporting News, The, Sept 30, 2002

(1) Patrick Ewing. He retired without the one thing every NBA player dreams of: lifetime access to a Gold Club VIP room.

(2) Glants-Dodgers. The last two weeks have rekindled a long and heated rivalry. Yep, Californians put it right up there with impertinent Chardonnay vs. assertive Pinot Noir.

(3) Ohio State. Freshman running back Maurice Clarette is so good, he's affecting the Buckeye's playbook. They're installing a run-pass-coach-slugs-an-opposing-player option.

(4) The Ryder Cup. The watch word before play begins in England is "sportsmanship," so the first Brit who heckles a U.S. player gets Old Glory upside the head.

(5) NHL exhibition games. It's a chance to play in front of less-than-knowledgeable fans in cities that never have witnessed the game's speed and grace--like, for instance, Atlanta.
