The best run stuffers

Sporting News, The,  Sept 27, 2004

An inside look at Carolina's Kris Jenkins--the NFL's best run-plugging lineman--and 10 other immovable forces, as compiled by TSN correspondents:

A year ago, the Panthers' Brentson Buckner made headlines and angered Warren Sapp when he said teammate Kris Jenkins would redefine the defensive tackle position.

These days, no one's arguing.

Jenkins, 25, has become the league's most dominating run stuffer and is just beginning to hit his prime. His size (6-4, 315) makes it virtually impossible for blockers to knock him off the line.

But Jenkins doesn't rely exclusively on overpowering blockers. What makes him different from other tackles is his ability to move and reach ballcarriers who aren't coming straight at him.

Not only is Jenkins a force against the run, he's an elite inside pass rusher. With concerns about his attitude and energy level all but gone, he is well on his way to proving Buckner right.
