Darwin Walker: civil, except on Sundays
Sporting News, The, Sept 27, 2004 by Bryan Ethier
Darwin Walker is in love.
"I have a love affair with business development and football," the Eagles defensive tackle says.
In addition to dismantling quarterbacks, Walker is a licensed civil engineer who specializes in structural engineering. He is 85 percent owner of the Tennessee-based Progressive Engineering Group, LLC., where he and co-owner Paul Tucker provide engineering and design support to owners of commercial, public and industrial structures.

"The thing that gives you so much satisfaction is being able to put something together on paper and physically put it together and see the finished project," says Walker, 27, who played college football for Tennessee and has started 33 straight games for the Eagles. "I can design a building on paper and can be involved in construction and look back when I'm done and say I had a major impact on this city or on this area."
In three years, Progressive has done everything from small projects such as minor church modifications to large retrofits and refurbishments of buildings as big as 100,000 square feet. Progressive even provided engineering support to the University of Tennessee's $3.5 million tennis facility.
Such large projects help pave the way for Walker to realize his ultimate goal.
"I want to design, be a part of construction and own my own project," he says. "My dreams are to get in the community and help people that are less fortunate. I also want to own my own NFL franchise."
You can bet he'll design that team's stadium, too.
