Sporting News, The,  Sept 30, 2005  by Vinnie Iyer

... Peyton Manning? The Jaguars held Manning to 122 passing yards in Week 2 by shrinking the field vertically and horizontally with speed, discipline and physical play. The cornerbacks and safeties didn't let Manning's receivers get behind them--his longest completion was for 20 yards--and Jacksonville's rangy linebackers, led by former Colt Mike Peterson, worked sideline to sideline to funnel plays inside. Credit Manning for realizing this and relying on handing off and dumping passes to Edgerrin James, which allowed the Colts' outstanding line to eventually wear down the Jaguars' stout front four. Manning's statistics weren't as pretty as usual, but finding a gritty way to win at home will help his team down the line in similarly tough matchups on the road.

... Daunte Culpepper? The Vikings' shoddy line play has caused a chain reaction. They can't run the ball between the tackles, which allows pass rushers to tee off on the team's overmatched tackles. With no Randy Moss, Culpepper lacks a security blanket to help him comfortably go through his progressions. Going more to the shotgun and no-huddle are only makeshift solutions for Minnesota's offense. In addition to more maximum-protection schemes, Culpepper will need to run the ball more himself on designed draws to help keep ends honest and blitzing linebackers on their heels.
