The number of shutouts registered in the 6,359 NFL games (including playoffs) played between October 16, 1977, and September 20, 2004. During that span, the Buccaneers were shut out a league-high 21 times and the 49ers not once. Their scoring streak of 456 consecutive games came to an end when the Seahawks blanked San Francisco, 34-0, in Week 3. The 49ers' 420-game regular-season streak was 53 percent greater than the previous NFL record of 274. Of the 27 other teams in the league at the start of the 49ers' streak in 1977, all had been shut out at least once by the end of the 1985 season.
