The last lime the Oakland A's and the San Francisco Giants were in the postseason together, an earthquake measuring magnitude 7.1 shook the Bay Area.
The quake hit just before the start of Game 3 of the World Series at Candlestick Park. Commissioner Fay Vincent ordered postponement of the game and instructed authorities to dear the ballpark.
The A's held a two-game lead after starting the Series in Oakland. Play didn't resume in San Francisco until 10 days later, and the A's went on to sweep the Series behind stellar pitching from Dave Stewart (2-0, 1.69 ERA) and Mike Moore (2-0, 2.08) and heavy hitting from Rickey Henderson (.474) and Carney Lansford (.438).
