Charles Grant LE, Saints

Sporting News, The,  Oct 25, 2004

STRENGTHS. Has good quickness for his size (6-3, 290), a great first step and the ability to get into the backfield. Sees the ball well and is adept at spotting screens and draws. Shows excellent speed and tenacity while chasing plays down from behind. Adjusts well and can make plays on the move. Has good burst off the edge as a pass rusher and can turn the corner. Has multiple pass-rush moves and a "never give up" mentality. Is effective at stunts. Excels at forcing fumbles and is an explosive tackler.

WEAKNESSES: Is a bit raw technique-wise and plays undisciplined at times, flying upfield and taking himself out of plays. Plays too high at times, losing leverage and power. Can be overwhelmed at the point of attack and struggles to beat double-teams. Misses tackles because he's trying for the big play.

BOTTOM LINE: Grant has showed great improvement each year since being a first-round pick in '02. He is better at rushing the passer than defending the run but is gaining confidence and improving in all areas. If he doesn't face an abundance of double-teams, he could contend for the league sack title.--War Room scouts
