To dye for

Sporting News, The, Nov 1, 1999

The Chargers' Junior Seau was not on the injured list for the October 17 game against the Seahawks, but if anyone ever qualified for some time off because of a bad hair day, it was Seau. Thanks to a bet with Chargers kicker John Carney, a Notre Dame alum, Seau, a Southern California grad, had to dye his hair Fighting Irish gold after the Trojans blew a 21-point lead in a 25-24 loss to the Irish.

The result was brutal--Seau's black locks did not match up well with the gold dye and wound up more of a copper hue. The Chargers beat the Seahawks, though, thanks to two field goals by Carney in the final 2:54. "I will wear this hair anytime John Carney does that for me," Seau says.
