THIS WEEK'S SPOTLIGHT: PASS-CATCH DUOS
Go ahead, call Louisville pass happy. The Cardinals don't care. Not as long as Chris Redman is around to quarterback a one-back offense that likes to spread the field with four and five wideouts and pass, pass, pass.
Redman, a senior known for his toughness, savvy and strong arm, leads an offense that ranks seventh in the nation (473.7 yards per game). Redman has completed 261-of-398 passes for 2,935 yards with 27 touchdowns en route to setting I-A career records for completions (975) and attempts (1,587). He has many favorite targets, including wideouts Lavell Boyd, Arnold Jackson and Zek Parker. But Redman's favorite is tight end Ibn Green.
Green, Redman's top target since the eighth grade and a teammate on the team coached by Redman's father at Male High in Louisville, ranks 36th in the nation in receptions per game (51 overall, 5.7 per game) for the 6-3 Cardinals, who beat UAB 23-14 last weekend and travel to Cincinnati on Saturday. The past two years, Green led the nation's tight ends in receptions.
