Heisman watch

Sporting News, The,  Nov 15, 2004  by Matt Hayes

1 QB Matt Leinart, USC. He still has two big, nationally televised games--Notre Dame and at UCLA--to solidify his case. Season stats: 2,068 passing yards, 20 TDs, 5 INTs.

2 QB Alex Smith, Utah. Do the Heisman voting rules say anything about BCS vs. non-BCS? Of course not. Season stas: 2,196 passing yards, 24 TDs, 2 INTs; 439 rushing yards, 8 TDs.

3 QB Jason White, Oklahoma. He's beginning to look a lot like he did in 2003, when big numbers and his team's high ranking secured the award. Season stats: 2,130 passing yards, 25 TDs, 4 INTs

4 RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma. What's not to like? He has nine straight 100-yard games and played with a hurt shoulder in a big road victory. Season stats: 1,373 rushing yards, 9 TDs.
