Out on a limb

Sporting News, The, Nov 20, 2000

* TCU coach Dennis Franchione won't leave Fort Worth unless he thinks the program he would join has a legit chance to win a national title. Franchione had it written in his contract that a buyout isn't necessary if he takes jobs at Arizona State, Texas, Texas A&M or Notre Dame.

* If Washington wins out, which should be no problem with its remaining game Saturday at Washington State, look for it to claim a BCS at-large spot in the Fiesta Bowl--ahead of the losers in the Big 12 and SEC title games. Huskies coach Rick Neuheisel is a native of the area, and UW fans travel well.

* Miami WR Santana Moss should be a finalist for the Heisman but won't be. If not for a bum ankle that slowed him in the Hurricanes' only loss, September 9 at Washington, Miami might be unbeaten, and Moss would be in the Heisman hunt.
