Final Four

Sporting News, The, Nov 29, 1999

THOUGHTS OF THE WEEK

The week's latest turn of events on the way to Indy:

1 CBS' $6 billion buzzer-beater. With no national cable for the NCAA Tournament's early rounds, avid hoops fans get 11 more years of Buffalo wings and cheese sticks at the local sports bar.

2 The Tic Price affair. The last thing this bizarre to come out of Memphis was the fried peanut butter-and-banana sandwich.

3 Early-season upsets. Duke, UConn and Ohio State--three of '99's Final Four--fall. So how come those who insist only March matters are apoplectic now?

4 Notre Dame reaches the Final Four. OK, so it's the NIT and the preseason. The St. Paddy's Day parade is only four months early.
