Your Turn

Sporting News, The, Nov 29, 2004

* So a coach who in his first three years, goes 32-7, wins a national championship, is 2-1 vs. a hated rival and is 14-4 vs. top 25 teams is considered overpaid by Matt Hayes (TSN, November 15)? I know Jim Tressel is having a down year, but after all of his accomplishments, $1.3 million is a bargain. I think the guy gets a pass for this year.--Paul Martin, Dayton, Ohio

* TSN dropped the ball on its midseason all-NFL team (TSN, November 8). No disrespect to Will Shields or Brian Waters, but the Steelers' Alan Faneca is the NFL's best guard. Pittsburgh ranks among the best in the NFL in rushing, and Faneca led the way with consecutive whippings of the two teams almost everyone says are the NFL's best (New England and Philadelphia).--Chris J. Elardo, Leesburg, Va.

* Why have the Mets put their fate in the hands of a rookie? Willie Randolph has never even made out a lineup card. Picking a new manager shouldn't be a popularity contest-particularly when many of his recommendations came from those whose hearts are wrapped in Yankees pinstripes.--Jim Bums, Valley Stream, N.Y

* In his letter to TSN, former NCAA infractions committee chair Thomas Yaeger is correct in saying, "the facts are still the facts" (TSN, November 15).The facts are, the NCAA intimidated Washington into firing Rick Neuheisel for an offense the NCAA didn't punish him for. The people undermining college sports are the ones running the NCAA. Keep fighting, Matt Hayes.--Robert Collingwood, Seattle
