The Big East, which mopped up during the fall signing period, fared quite well with elite point guards from New York Omar Cook a deluxe playmaker and defender, signed with St. John's after strangely being turned down by North Carolina. Hard-driving Taliek Brown will be Khalid El-Amin's successor at Connecticut, and extra-quick Andre Barrett, a cerebral passer and dangerous 3-point shooter, should help turn around Seton Hall.... Duke-bound Chris Duhon likely will play alongside (or behind) freshman Jason Williams for at least one season before getting the reins.... Michigan recruit Avery Queen and unsigned Jimmy Twymon are teammates at Winchendon School in Massachusetts. Queen, a native of California, is playing the point with scoring-oriented Twymon, from Detroit, on a wing, but the latter almost certainly college.... While UNC, which must replace Ed Cota next season, didn't land Cook, the Heels did corral two of the best 12 prep points in exciting Brian Morrison and brainy (4.16 gpa) Adam Boone.... One of the most stunning fall decisions came from lefty Cliff Hawkins. More than a month after commuting to New Mexico, Hawkins reportedly initiated a visit to Kentucky in the middle of the signing period and signed with UK.3
