When it comes to drivers with guts and determination, it would be difficult to match the resolve of Mark Martin, chosen by his peers as the Dale Earnhardt Toughest Driver. He finished 43rd in the season opener, battled through numerous equipment failures and qualified eighth for the Chase. He finished the season in fourth.

"That's pretty special," says Martin, 45. "I'm really grateful to my team because they made everyone notice 1 was charging. I'm always charging, but last year I was charging back at 25th. This year I had better cars and a better team."
