Heisman watch

Matt Hayes

1 QB Matt Leinart, USC. Only a meltdown against rival UCLA--have you seen the Bruins' defense?-can stop this Heisman train. Season stats: 2,748 passing yards, 28 TDs, 5 INTs.

2 QB Jason White, Oklahoma, If not for Leinart's late push, White could be the second two-time winner of the award. Season stats: 2,707 passing yards, 30 TDs, 4 INTs.

3 QB Alex Smith, Utah. If nothing else, he deserves consideration for being the first player to lead a non-BCS team to a BCS bowl. Season stats: 2,624 passing yards, 28 TDs, 4 INTs; 563 rushing yards, 10 TDs.

4 RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma. What if A-Pete gets another 200 against the Buffs and leads OU to the Orange Bowl? Does he deserve it then? Season stats: 1,671 rushing yards, 12 TDs.

5 QB Jason Campbell, Auburn. He won't win it, but after persevering through four different coordinators and systems, he deserves the trip to New York City. Season stats: 2,137 passing yards, 16 TDs, 5 INTs.
