Week 13 matchup: by War Room scouts
Sporting News, The, Dec 9, 2005
Johnson (6-1,230) is a big back who's capable of getting the tough yards between the tackles, but he also has uncommon quickness for his size, allowing him to bounce runs outside when necessary. Wilson, the anchor of the Broncos' defense, is. extremely athletic and has sideline-to-sideline range. A relentless defender, he sometimes is too aggressive, leading him to overpursue and get out of position. But he is good at filling holes on interior runs and, despite a lack of bulk (6-0,240), can hold his ground near the line of scrimmage.
Denver plays a 4-3 scheme with big linemen up front. They will occupy the Chiefs' blockers, allowing Wilson to use his speed and athletic ability to run unobstructed to the ball. The Broncos' corners also are good in run support, which will make things difficult for Johnson. The Chiefs' linemen will have a tough time with Denver's size, and Wilson will lead a fast charge to the hole. If Johnson bounces outside, Wilson has the speed to get to the ball before Johnson can turn the corner. If Wilson misses, the corners are very good at coming up to make tackles. Kansas City's best chance at springing Johnson is to establish its passing game; that would force Wilson to drop into coverage and create more space for Johnson near the line. Advantage: Wilson.
