The 2004 BCS disaster goes beyond Auburn going 12-0 without landing a spot in the Orange Bowl. It also impacts poor Cal, which now must watch Big East juggernaut Pittsburgh get a $14 million payday. BCS officials claim it's only about Nos. 1 and 2. Clearly, it's more than that.

Auburn's perfect season and third-place finish in the BCS standings might trigger a change in philosophy of nonconference scheduling in the SEC. The computers, though not as powerful this year, illustrated that SEC teams' strength of schedule was woeful outside of their league.
