Top 5 candidates to be first-time All-Stars

Sporting News, The,  Dec 20, 2004  by Stan McNeal

1. LeBron James, Cavaliers. Take note, Kareem. After this season, LeBron will be only 18 selections from tying your record.

2. Dwyane Wade, Heat. Where we'd really like to see him at the festivities in Denver is in the dunk contest. Think he'd fly even higher in the thin air?

3. Antawn Jamison, Wizards. After six years in the West, Jamison finds the road a little less crowded in the East. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's averaging 22.4 points and leading a team that has been one of the season's biggest surprises.

4. Amare Stoudemire, Suns. With Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan fixtures in the starting lineup, Stoudemire will have to settle for a reserve role--for now.

5. Richard Hamilton, Pistons. Someone should make it from the defending champs besides Ben Wallace, and it might as well be their leading scorer.
