Arm pits

Sporting News, The,  Dec 23, 2005

The bad news: With a bunch of older guys hanging on and delivering subpar performances most weeks, this may be the worst year for quarterbacking in NFL history. But the good news ... oh, sorry, make that the worse news: You ain't seen nothin' yet--the league is heading toward a full-blown QB crisis. There are exceptions, of course, but most of the young guns in the league--David Carr, Joey Harrington, Kyle Boller, even Byron Leftwich--offer all the excitement and promise of a big, fat pffffffffft. Paul Attner will probe this ugly trend and perhaps even extend a sliver of hope you can cling to.

On to a more pleasant topic: our 2005 Sportsman of the Year. Who do you think it will be? (Hint: He didn't BS a congressional committee, get caught with drugs or cavort with Drew Rosenhaus.) Also next week: a trip between the ears of that wild and wacky Wizard Gilbert Arenas, plus a close-up look at thez best backcourt in college hoops.
