Sports talk with … Anthony LaPaglia
Sporting News, The, Dec 23, 2005 by Mike DeCourcy
Tony and Emmy winner; star of the CBS hit Without A Trace; Australia native and part owner of Sydney FC, which is competing this week in soccer's World Club Championship
TSN: Do your American friends make fun of you for being a soccer fan?
LaPAGLIA: They used to. Not anymore. I remember not so long ago being so pissed off at ESPN because every time they'd mention soccer, which was rare, the commentators would be so dismissive and rude. Now that America's ranked in the top 10, suddenly they're on board.
TSN: Has being here given you a taste for American sports?

LaPAGLIA: I have to say I'm kind of a fair-weather friend. I love baseball at the World Series. I love football at the Super Bowl. I love basketball at the championship level. Other than that, during the year, I don't really follow those sports.
TSN: You haven't become one of those celebrity Lakers fans?
LaPAGLIA: No, not at all. I'm more likely to go see the Galaxy play. That whole celebrity scene is not my thing.
TSN: Is your ownership style more Jerry Jones, Jerry Buss or George Steinbrenner?
LaPAGLIA: As an ex-player, my tendencies always lean toward what's best for the team, what's best for the players, what's best for the coaching staff. You have to have a great final product.
TSN: Australia recently qualified for its first World Cup since 1974. How'd that feel?
LaPAGLIA: I cried. I watched it live. It was on at 1 a.m., and when it was over, it was the most amazing moment.
TSN: If you could make one sports figure disappear without a trace, who would it be?
LaPAGLIA: It's got to be that guy, what's his name? T.O. Terrell Owens. I think T.O. needs to go missing for a while.
