Spurrier and the NFL

Sporting News, The, Feb 11, 2002

* Hey, Dan Pompei: Don't you think we should wait until Steve Spurrier coaches at least one pro game before we hail him as the greatest NFL coach since Vince Lombardi (TSN, January 28)?

David Housewright Roseville, Minn.

* I understand why Spurrier got so much money, but why in God's name did he come to D.C.? He has an up-and-coming receiver in Rod Gardner, but who else? And who will get Gardner the ball? Spurrier has a great offensive mind, but that largely has to do with his innovative passing system. So why did he join a team that has been built for power running and ball control? Good luck, Steve. At least you have a pretty good defense.
