Enough about New York

Sporting News, The, March 4, 2002

* The halcyon days when I could get excited about the Pirates' prospects are long gone. I sit here today (as do fans of 18 to 22 other teams) knowing that my team stands zero chance of making the playoffs. Can you at least give me until opening day to get juiced about the baseball season? I guess not. I get the Yankees and Mets stuffed down my throat in the February 18 issue.

* I was extremely disappointed to see another Yankee cover on your magazine promoting spring training. Why was I disappointed? Because I can only imagine how many upcoming Yankee covers are awaiting us through the season and postseason.

If the Yankees deserve the cover for good play during the season, I have no problem if you give it to them.

But before the season is the one time all teams are equal in the standings. Why not give a small-market team a chance to shine on your glossy cover before they are all but officially eliminated in late May?
