Here's who'll step to the fore to join the big three

Sporting News, The, Jan 20, 1997 by Mike DeCourcy

Those coaches who believe defense presents the only avenue to basketball success--and there are too many--might want to check these numbers. The top 10 in scoring offense ended the first week of January with an 85-27 record; the top 10 in scoring defense were 87-23. Not much difference. ... Louisville coach Denny Crum became the 19th coach to reach 600 career victories with the Cards' four-point victory over Georgia Tech. ... Three of the top 10 home-court winning streaks fell in the space of a week; Texas Tech (35 games), Connecticut (26) and Mississippi (14) all were dropped at home.
