Railway Age, Nov, 2004

The city council of Calgary has tentatively approved lhe purchase or 14 new Siemens SD-160 light rail vehicles for C$57.1 million after delaying the decision for more than two months. However, Calgary Mayor David Bronconnier called the 14 cars "a Band-Aid approach" because it doesn't address the need for LRT expansion.

Bronconnier said there must be substantial federal and provincial funding because the city, which has added 190,000 residents in the last decade, will have just C$80 million in transportation debt capacity for the next five years.
