Bay Area Rapid Transit: awarded a $3.4 million follow-on contract to Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc., to expand the scope of work on automated fare collection equipment

Railway Age, Dec, 2004

Bay Area Rapid Transit: Awarded a $3.4 million follow-on contract to Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc., to expand the scope of work on automated fare collection equipment. BART's AFC system has already been linked with the Bay Area's TransLink[R] regional smartcard program, allowing riders to travel across all Bay Area public transit systems using a single card.

Cubic will now integrate its smartcard technology into BART's existing Cubic ticket vending machines. Customers will be able to load fare value onto a shared electronic purse on their TransLink cards, which can be used in any participating transit agency's system.
