DART enhances lines of communication

Dallas Area Rapid Transit selected Behlman Electronics, Inc., to supply signal generators to facilitate communication between DART control centers and trains. As moving trains trip relays to activate highway-rail grade crossing warning systems, they also automatically transmit location information to the control center.
The center then sends a coded signal via the track to a decoder unit onboard the train to indicate the speed at which the train's engineer should proceed. As part of DART's extension program, Behlman's signal generators will convert available track power to the 100 Hz sine wave signal necessary for the train's display panel to properly decode and display the control center's signal.
