BART, Santa Clara come to terms on extension - Transit Update - Brief Article
Railway Age, Jan, 2002
Following months of negotiations, a cost-sharing agreement has been reached in California between the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Bay Area Rapid Transit for a 22-mile, nine-station BART extension to San Jose. VTA will contribute $48 million annually, $23 million for operating costs and the remainder for new cars, an expanded BART operations center, and East Bay station upgrading.
Under the terms of the agreement, VTA would own the extension but BART would control trains and infrastructure and would operate the system.
