TTX doubles equipment budget - Industry Outlook - Brief Article

Adding to the $243 million worth of freight cars ordered for delivery in 2003 as part of a sustained building program, the TTX Company board of directors has approved a $247 million increase to its capital expenditure program that authorizes further equipment orders, based on demand. TTX anticipates acquiring flat cars for the intermodal, lumber, steel, and pipe markets, as well as 60-foot, Plate F cushioned boxcars, adding to orders placed earlier this year.
The $243 million in orders already placed are with Greenbrier and National Steel Car. They include 800 53-foot, 125-ton stand-alone well cars for domestic container service from National Steel Car; 400 three-unit, 53-foot, 125-ton intermodal well cars (1,200 platforms) from Greenbrier; 1,000 60-foot, 100-ton Plate F boxcars (500 each from Greenbrier and National Steel Car); 60 five-unit, 40-foot, 125-ton well cars (300 platforms) for international container service from Greenbrier; and 400 89-foot, 100-ton flat cars from National Steel Car.
