Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority - Equipment - Brief Article

Awarded Alstom a $127 million contract to overhaul 120 CQ311 rapid transit cars, which were built between 1985 and 1988 by Hitachi. Refurbishment will extend their operating life by 15 to 20 years. The contract also includes a $139 million option to overhaul up to 118 CQ310 cars, which were built between 1979 and 1981 by Franco-Belge (now part of Alstom).

Work will be carried out at Alstom's facilities in Hornell, N.Y. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2004, at a rate of up to eight cars a month.
