Custom lift system - Products
Railway Age, Jan, 2003
Handling Specialty offers three custom lift systems for railcar manufacturers. Each system is comprised of two selfpropelled scissor lifts and one wireless, radio frequency hand controller. Together, the lifts can handle one rail-car body weighing up to 16,800 pounds. Loaded via crane, the lift system follows floor-mounted guide rails to move the railcar through a series of in-line progressive work stations. At the end of the assembly line, the lifts are picked up via forklift and returned to the beginning of the line. Handling Specialty also designed an external floor mounted guide to ensure that the forklifts are able to lower and center the carts correctly on the rails at the start position. The lifts will move up and down once and travel 100 feet horizontally per eight hour shift. With a capacity of 10,000 pounds, each lift is self-contained with an on-board HPU, powered traverse, battery charger, and controls. The integrated battery charger comes with a low battery level indicator and a 24V DC power cont rol. The radio frequency controller allows the operator to control lift A and lift B individually or as a synchronized set. For safety, each lift also includes front and rear rubber bumpers and an audio/visual beacon to indicate that it is in motion.
