Commuter rail for San Antonio? - Transit Update - San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter Rail District - Brief Article

Railway Age, Jan, 2004

Transportation consultant PBS&J Corp. has been awarded a program management contract by the San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter Rail District for the proposed 140-mile commuter rail line linking Georgetown to San Antonio, Tex. PBS&J will oversee project planning and administrative functions under die initial $61,300-phase of the contract, with further authorizations to be approved daring subsequent segments.

Along with Carter Burgess Inc., PBS&J and other subcontractors will update a four-year-old feasibility study completed by the Texas Department of Transportation. That analysis found commuter rail between the Austin and San Antonio areas would be viable, helping to reduce congestion along crowded Interstate 35 for both passengers and freight.
