DART

Railway Age, Jan, 2005

Dallas Area Rapid Transit's 35-mile Northwest/Southeast rail expansion will move forward without a proposed rail tunnel serving the Love Field Airport terminal. The Federal Transit Administration has determined that the alignment, with the inclusion of a one-mile, $160 million tunnel, would not be recommended for federal funding, According to DART, other options to serve Love Field will be explored.

Last February, the FTA gave a "recommended" rating to the expansion project's 20.9-mile base alignment, which will link the Dallas area's Pleasant Grove with Farmer's Branch, And Congress included $8.5 million in the FY 2005 omnibus appropriations hill to advance design and real estate activities as DART pursues a $700 million Full Funding Grant Agreement request for expansion. Regionally funded extensions will serve Carrollton, North Irving, and DFW International Airport.
