Buckeye - Supply Side - bids for Buckeye Steel Castings Co - Brief Article

Railway Age, Feb, 2003

Bids from prospective buyers of the assets of bankrupt Buckeye Steel Castings Co were to be received early this month, with a buyer to be selected by Feb. 11. On Dec. 20, 2002, Buckeye, its parent holding company, and a wholly-owned subsidiary filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code with the U.S.

Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio. Buckeye, one of the oldest names in railway supply (founded 1881), closed its doors on Oct. 15, 2002, after creditors pulled its credit facility and the company ran out of cash. Seven-hundred workers were laid off. Buckeye's shutdown affected the construction schedule of NJ Transit's Alstom Transport-built Comet V commuter rail coaches. Buckeye was also main supplier of replacement passenger car trucks to Amtrak.
