San Diego - In Transit - Brief Article

Railway Age, Feb, 2004

The San Diego Association of Governments (SanDAG) board of directors has formally adopted light rail in the Mid-Coast corridor between the existing OId Town Transit Center and University City in La Jolla, Calif. SanDAG's transportation committee recommended the 10.7-mile San Diego Trolley extension last November, The proposed route would run north from Old Town along the east side of Interstate 5 and into the University of California's San Diego campus.

The tracks would then take ego of two alignments under consideration before reaching the University Towne Centre mall. The board did not revisit bus rapid transit for the corridor, "We need to stop talking about this and start doing it," said SanDAG vice chairman and Poway Mayor Mickey Cafagna.
