10East technology mobilizes more CSXT employees

Railway Age, March, 2004

CSX Transportation will equip another 750 of its signal maintenance and construction employees with 10East's Mobile Business Platform, an extension of the RailDOCS[TM] (Railway Daily Operations Control) system.

The order includes implementation of 10East's Electronic Federal Railroad Administration Test, Inspection, and Scheduling System and text messaging to eliminate paperwork and manual labor while providing real-time, automated management of FRA CFR 49 Part 234 and 236 compliance data (RA, Oct. 2003, p. 38). It follows a CSXT pilot project with more than 325 signal maintainers and management employees that began hi 2002.

Sturdy, handheld Zaurus PMTs (Personal Mobile Tools) from Sharp Electronics are used for data entry and communications with 10East's RailDOCS data center.

Now, nearly 1,100 CSXT employees have access to Mobile Business Platform. The Class I began using RailDOCS in 1996.
